2018 ARC-PA Workshop Accreditation and You

ARC-PA workshop Accreditation and You REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

July 22-24, 2018

The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland, Ohio

 

This workshop will provide PA program faculty an overview of the accreditation process including sessions designed to give participants the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the interpretation of individual Standards.

 

This workshop focuses on bringing the Standards, accreditation manual and required data reports together as working tools for programs. Sessions will address the application and site visit, data collection and analysis over time for the self-study report and specific Standards cited most often in the 4th edition.

 

Dates and Times:
The Accreditation and You workshop begins at noon on Sunday, July 22, 2018 with sessions until 6:30 PM (snack provided, lunch and dinner on your own). On Monday, July 23 the workshop begins at 7:00 AM (breakfast and lunch provided) and adjourns at 5:30 PM (Dinner on your own). On Tuesday, July 24, the workshop begins at 7:00 AM (breakfast and snack provided) and adjourns at noon.

An optional Overview of Accreditation for new faculty is included in the workshop fee and will be held 9:30am-11am, Sunday, July 22, 2018.

Space is limited. Priority will be given to first time registrants from programs scheduled for site visits in 2018-2019. Programs are limited to two attendees per program.

Fees:
The registration fee for the Accreditation and You workshop is $1,250 per person. The fee includes all meeting materials, breakfast and lunch on Monday, breakfast on Tuesday and snack breaks throughout all days.

 

Registration fees must be received by June 15, 2018. The ARC-PA does not accept credit cards.

Hotel: Ritz-Carlton – Cleveland
The conference guestroom rate at the Ritz-Carlton – Cleveland is $229 per night plus 16.5% tax, single or double occupancy. The conference rate will be available July 19-27, 2018 (based on guestroom availability).

(Reservations must be guaranteed by credit card and “no shows” will be billed one night.)  The room block is available until June 22, 2018. However, only a limited number of rooms are reserved, so make your reservation early.

 

Registration Form:

The form was due by June 8, 2018. The ARC-PA will send confirmation of registration to the email listed on the registration form.

Travel:

Attendees are responsible for making their own travel and hotel arrangements. Air, hotel and other travel arrangements should not be made until confirmation of registration from the ARC-PA.

 

The hotel is 15 miles / 20 minutes from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE). The hotel is easily accessible via the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) on the Red Line:

  1. Take the Red Line to Tower City – Public Square Station, cost is $2.25 each way.
  2. After exiting the train, take the elevator to M3.
  3. Turn right out of the elevator, and the hotel’s arrival lobby is located to the left.

July 2017 – Standards Revision

The Standards Committee has begun to meet and has reviewed the data collected from program faculty and site visitors. Review of accreditation standards and practices from other health care professions is in process and will be reviewed at its next meeting scheduled for September 2017.

New Assistant Director Patricia J. Kelly

Patricia J. Kelly, PhD, MMSc, PA-C joined the ARC-PA August 1, 2016 as an Assistant Director. Prior to joining the ARC-PA, she was the Dept Chair/founding Program Director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Physician Assistant Program from 2011-2016. Dr. Kelly is a graduate of the Emory University PA Program and taught as a guest lecturer while practicing in internal medicine before returning to be an educator full-time. She served as the Academic Coordinator and then the Associate Director for the Mercer University PA Program from 2006-2011 which was another developing program. Trish received her PhD in Educational Leadership from Mercer University and has published numerous articles and textbook chapters. She has also presented multiple topics in PA education nationally and served as a feature editor for the JPAE.  Dr. Kelly serves as a member of the Faculty Development Council for the Physician Assistant Education Association.

New Assistant Director Melissa Coffman

Melissa Coffman, Ed.D., PA-C began working with the ARC-PA as an Assistant Director on August 1, 2016.  Ms. Coffman has been volunteering as a site visitor since 2014.  She previously served as the Program Director at the Nova Southeastern University Fort Lauderdale PA Program from 2008-2016.  She joined NSU in 2004 and has held many positions including faculty, course director, Assistant Clinical Director, and Assistant Director / Associate Chair. Prior to joining NSU, Dr. Coffman was affiliated with Pace University-Lenox Hill Hospital’s Physician Assistant Program in New York City.

In May 2013, Melissa obtained her Doctorate of Education from the Nova Southeastern University Abraham S. Fischler School of Education.  Her degree focus was Health Care Education and Curriculum Development.  Melissa is the current President of the Nu Sigma Upsilon Chapter of the Alpha Eta Society.  She has been an active participant on the NSU Council on Continuing Medical Education, delivered a number of presentations at the PAEA Education Forums, and published Physical Diagnosis Lab Manual with a fellow faculty member.

Program Policy Changes

At the September 2016 Commission meeting, the Commission developed a new policy for programs requesting incremental class sizes and an adjustment to Policy 11 regarding applications and site visits.  On the Policies and Bylaws web page, the change to Policy 11 and the new Policy, 10.2.1 may be found in the ARC-PA Policies.  Both policies are effective as of September 10, 2016.
